Excel4Business exists in the developing world of e-commerce. It's a time of great progress in global communication. Unfortunately this means many old laws and statutes have yet to be updated to reflect the new reality. This means it can still be prudent to send some legal documentation by fax. Also, a number of clients use the fax machine as a type of scanner that can be used to send us sample images and screenshots.

This means that, although we prefer to communicate by phone and e-mail, it is still necessary for us to offer clients a fax line. Were we to receive paper faxes, this would conflict with our own computer based content management systems. In order to maintain a paperless office, we subscribe to a virtual fax service. This means that we send or receive faxes as attachments to e-mails

eFax

Our provider of choice is eFax, the market leader in virtual fax lines. At $15/month, the service is not as cheap as e.g. Skype's phone equivalent, but it is cheaper than maintaining a fax line and the associated hardware. For a limited amount of faxes, there are no additional overheads.

For a business with multiple sites, eFax provides a better solution than a permanent fax number because it cuts down the time required to share paper documentation across an organization. Ultimately you end up having to scan paper copies onto a computer to pass them on. It's a lot simpler if they are delivered to a single e-mail account that our consultants can access.

One of the strengths of eFax as a provider is that you can select the area code of your fax number. We have selected to use a Cambridge (UK) number because it can be matched to our physical location.

We are more than happy to publicize our use of a virtual fax service because we consider it more efficient than the traditional alternative.
